If companies operating out of serviced offices in Edinburgh expect their staff to be on standby over the Christmas period in case they are needed they should ensure they compensate them.
That is the view of Noelle Murphy, editor of Employment Review, who stated that around half of employers require workers to be ready to go into the office if necessary.
Firms which fall into this category can remunerate staff in several ways, including financial bonuses or offering extra holiday.
"The first thing that employers can do is make sure they compensate employees in their pay packets. We found that our respondents will offer time and a half or double time in payment," Ms Murphy added.
Another way to reward workers who may have to go into serviced offices in Edinburgh over the festive period is to throw a Christmas party or lunch to boost staff morale.
According to research from Skype, 38.6 million people in Britain were expected to work over the Christmas period last year.
