Employees, including those working in serviced offices in Edinburgh, may be having difficulty sleeping because of the negative press surrounding the economy and potential job losses, it has been noted.
Jessica Alexander of the Sleep Council said individuals can switch off at night through a variety of different ways, including reading a book, painting, meditation and listening to music.
She observed there are certain activities - such as watching television - not recommended as they tend to stimulate an individual as opposed to helping them unwind.
Ms Alexander noted there is not a standard amount of hours sleep people need to get each night.
"The right amount of sleep is the amount you need so that you fall asleep fairly rapidly when you are ready to [and] wake up when you want to," she stated, adding this is not often possible for many individuals.
Earlier this month, BUPA's How Are You Britain? Report revealed that compared to colleagues who are well rested, an extra three days of sick leave are being taken by sleep-starved UK employees every year.
