Small and medium-sized enterprises, such as those serviced offices in Cardiff, may try using a tailored approach to employee engagement, following observations from one expert.
Phil Flaxton, chief executive of Work Wise UK, said there are a lot of employees who do not need much motivation because they are already well-driven individuals who understand the needs and role of their job and therefore require less guidance.
"But of course, there are others that are less motivated or needed to be managed on a more hands-on basis," he stated, adding: "It depends on the sort of job you're doing."
Mr Flaxton was commenting after a report by The Work Foundation entitled Understanding the Deal found that businesses are now taking the approach whereby the employment relationship has become one based on mutuality as opposed to a reciprocal basis.
According to the organisation, employees already have high levels of motivation and deliver a more than adequate standard of work.
Therefore, the challenge for firms - including those in offices to rent - is not to engage staff in common, shared goals, but to facilitate the delivery of areas of mutual interest that pre-existed.
