Employers based at serviced offices in Edinburgh may want to consider offering support to staff so they can discuss any problems they are facing.
Kevin Friery, clinical director at employee assistance company Right Corecare, explained how individuals are less likely to become stressed if they have help.
"When people have got no one to talk to they tend to take action themselves, which sometimes is not the right action. Giving people access to support is really important," he stated.
It was noted that often workers can lose a sense of perspective if they are left to mull things over without having another person to discuss issues with.
Mr Friery commented that this can lead to unnecessary concerns and increased pressure as employees start to burn out.
The British Standards Institution recently reported that stress is one of the most common problems in the modern workplace and affects more than 40 million workers in the European Union each year.
