The majority of small companies think spending cuts should be used to tackle the budget deficit, figures released by the Federation of Small Businesses (FSB) have revealed
Following the results from the Voice of Small Business survey, which showed 74 per cent of respondents want cuts to be utilised in this way, the FSB will announce a number of measures it believes the government should introduce in order to help small firms at the Conservative Party conference this week.
John Walker, national chairman of the FSB, said such enterprises drive the UK economy and have demonstrated themselves to be the country's main employers.
For this to continue, "small firms need the right measures in place so they can fulfil their role as innovators and job creators", he said.
Therefore, the FSB will recommend the government concentrates on genuine industry help for micro-firms and cuts the business support budget to £500 million.
Last month, business minister Mark Prisk noted it is essential small firms have access to finance and stated the administration wants to work with businesses to find ways to increase their finance.
