HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC) should show some leeway to small companies, such as those using serviced offices in Hemel Hempstead, completing their tax return documents after the specified November 1st deadline, according to one observer.
Stephen Alambritis, chief spokesman for the Federation of Small Businesses (FSB), said there may be those who legitimately send off the form just before the closing date and unintentionally miss the cut-off point.
He suggested it is the HMRC itself that has made mistakes with over and underpayments, and as such it should be proportionate and reasonable towards small companies submitting late paperwork.
"I think the HMRC needs to be reminded that a £100 fine is quite a lot. We would urge them to accept tax returns that land on Monday 1st November," Mr Alambritis stated.
Earlier this month, the FSB encouraged the government to use spending cuts as a way of tackling the budget deficit and recommended for the business support allowance to be reduced to £500.
