Those looking for offices to rent may be interested to hear that plans to centralise Torbay Council with a £36 million centre at Castle Circus are being scaled back.
A proposed business hub of up to 39,000 sq ft of new office space on the Town Hall car park will now be taken forward as a separate project with the council's proposed private sector development partners, reports the Herald Express.
"I think they miscalculated the number of staff employed and it would seem their figures were up the spout as to the space they needed. I understand they were miles out on costings," said MP Adrian Sanders.
He added another consideration would be the future of the 17 buildings of office space they vacate as there is not enough demand for it.
A move to a serviced office may be worth considering for businesses as Geoffrey Dicks, a senior official at the Office of Budget Responsibility, recently told the Treasury's Select Committee the coalition government's Budget made a double-dip recession more likely.
