Staff at serviced offices in Northampton may be interested to hear one expert's concerns about the "persistent" pay gap between the sexes.
Anna Bird, head of policy and campaigns at the Fawcett Society, explained how the difference between what women earn in comparison to men is "one of the starkest examples of inequality in the UK today".
She described the progress on closing the gap as "stalling" and called for "urgent action" to be taken.
It was suggested that, despite the introduction of the Equal Pay Act 40 years ago, on average women earn a sixth less than their male counterparts.
Ms Bird warned that the current economic situation is only making the situation worse and that changes need to be made in order to protect the next generation of female employees.
Her comments follow a recent report by GMB that urged the government to recognise women as no longer a minority in the workplace, as they now make up 49.9 per cent of staff.
