Businesses operating from serviced offices in Northampton may wish to ensure the health and safety of any homeworkers in their organisation.
Employment law editor at XpertHR Bar Huberman said it "is a myth" that a corporation's management is not responsible for the wellbeing of these individuals.
Instead, they have "almost the same legal protection" as people in the workplace, she continued.
It must be established that their accommodation is safe and suitable for conducting job-related tasks, which may involve an examination of their storage arrangements, space, monitor and workstation, the expert stated.
Furthermore, homeworkers must know the procedure for reporting accidents and ought to be trained in how to handle equipment in the same manner as on-site staff, Ms Huberman declared.
Failure to do so may leave a corporation open for compensation claims, she asserted.
This follows news in the Evening Standard that people with jobs in places including London Bridge, Kings Cross, Statford and Waterloo may be asked to not go to work during the 2012 Olympic Games.
