Public sector staff based out of serviced offices in Northampton may find job cuts make their workload more "intense".
Stephen Overell, associate director of policy at the Work Foundation, explained how redundancies across the field are likely to have an adverse effect on those that remain in positions.
"The upshot of that is that people are experiencing that their work is a bit of a strain and that their hours are going up, as well," he commented.
It was suggested that individuals would have to "work harder" in the current climate and concerns about job security and rising unemployment would exacerbate such feelings.
Mr Overell stated that businesses in the private sector are under considerable pressure to help recruit some of those facing unemployment.
His remarks follow the recent release of data from the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development and the KPMG.
The Labour Market Outlook report shows that redundancies look set to rise significantly in the first quarter of 2011.
