Small companies that use serviced offices in Edinburgh may be interested to hear that they could hold the key to innovation and future economic growth, an expert has suggested.
According to business futurologist Dr James Bellini, the most creative ideas "invariably" come from less-sizable enterprises and that can then have a knock-on effect on the wider economy.
Dr Bellini went on to state that the UK is strong in terms of its design industry, as well as its life sciences sector, both areas in which small firms could generate new business in the next few years.
"In the end they maybe don't remain as small entities, but a lot of innovation is done by very small companies," he added.
His comments follow the launch this week of an event by the Intellectual Property Office, lauded by Baroness Wilcox as a chance to inspire innovation and inform young people about how inventive thinking can have an impact on everyday life and the future.
