Team building exercises are said to be less well-liked if not work-related, news which may interest those operating out of serviced offices in Edinburgh.
Penny Tamkin, associate director for the Institute of Employment Studies, explained how group bonding is often linked with the idea of an outdoor activity.
For example, she described how taking part in building a bridge over a river or working out how to get "from A to B" are the sort of team exercises individuals think of.
However, it was suggested that spending work hours carrying out such activities appears to "have become less popular".
"People are getting the sense that they are slightly embarrassed that they are not directly work-related and can't justify it," Ms Tamkin claimed.
The Team Building Company explains how group exercises can help to promote team work, bonding and leadership skills among employees in a range of sectors and from different backgrounds.
