Businesses working out of serviced offices in Edinburgh may wish to consider providing electric-powered vehicles to staff members, rather than company cars with petrol engines.
This is following the advice of Lem Bingley, author of the Greenmotor.co.uk blog, who noted that there are "a whole series of different benefits" this form of technology can provide to private enterprises.
He explained that members of staff with company cars will pay a tax, called benefit in kind.
As they will generally not be receiving a salary as high as they would otherwise, they are "missing out on income", he stated, so the government taxes "the benefit of the car", analysing the vehicle's value as it would be when it was new.
However, electric cars have a benefit in kind rating of zero and therefore are not taxable, whereas "a lovely Jaguar or Range Rover" from an employer could cost a worker thousands of pounds a year, Mr Bingley asserted.
Further benefits could be realised for businesses that may occasionally have to pay the London Congestion Charge, as electric vehicles are also exempt from this.
