Continually advancing skills could help employees in serviced offices in Cardiff.
Seven Suphi, a behavioural change specialist and author of Authentic Catalyst, explained how re-training may help individuals to secure their job.
She claimed that pre-empting change in the workplace and being adaptable can give employees the edge they need to maintain in a role.
It was suggested that building upon existing skills "can only be a good thing".
"If you believe your job is at risk then take the time to consider what you would like to do in the future and re-train," Ms Suphi advised.
Workers were encouraged to "stop worrying" and instead be proactive by seeing in what other areas they could potentially transfer their experience.
It was noted that men in particular may find change difficult as it is traditional for males to be seen as being the main breadwinner.
A recent survey featured in the British Journal of Psychiatry 2011 discussed the issue of how new economic and social environments have had a profound impact on male self-esteem.
