Stressed people in serviced offices in Cardiff could be some of the employees who are actually contributing to their own mental state and damaging their career potential.
This is according to Stress Doctor Terri Bodell, who noticed that, if someone is worried about their capabilities and the threat of redundancy, they are less likely to be performing to the best of their ability.
"You're more likely to make silly mistakes and therefore you're going to be highlighted as somebody who's not doing your job properly," she noted.
Mrs Bodell recommended that people proactively prepare for the worst-case scenarios, such as being fired, by updating their CV and looking for new opportunities so they are "not caught unprepared or unawares".
This should help to reduce feelings of anxiety, she declared.
Her comments follow a recent survey from the Chartered Management Institute, which revealed 39 per cent of workers feel their stress levels are increased through the behaviour of their boss.
