Businesses operating from serviced offices in Cardiff or elsewhere may wish to examine the security of their premises.
Adrian Platts, spokesman for the Business Crime Reduction Centre (BCRC), said the devices to choose are "dependent on the needs" of the specific enterprise.
However, window and door locks are often useful for most firms and should be utilised if possible. If they are not present, "it can be a cost effective measure to install them", he said, noting that thieves generally access a building from these entry points.
Regular routines for staff members ought to be avoided as some criminals observe their targets for a period of time before striking, the representative added.
He advised people to confer with Neighbourhood Policing Teams and crime reduction officers, as these professionals can "provide impartial guidance for free".
Companies may wish to avoid protecting their building at the expense of their clients' data, however, as leaks of personal information can cause massive reputational damage, according to director of products and services at Cybersource Dr Akif Khan.
