Small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) that are operating out of serviced offices in Edinburgh may want to ensure they have made provisions to protect their livelihoods.
Aviva has warned of the risk after the results of its biannual SME Pulse survey found that 50 per cent of organisations do not have a disaster recovery and business continuity plan (BCP).
David Bruce, commercial product manager at Aviva, warned of the consequences of not having preparations in place: "A disaster or crisis can strike a business at any time and failing to plan for such an event can undo years of good work and hard trading in an instant."
He added that a BCP could mean the difference between a company surviving or being forced to fold.
The Federation of Small Business outlines the importance of planning and explains how international incidents can have an effect on UK businesses.
It noted that the September 11th attack in New York disrupted 58 per cent of organisations based in Britain.
