Small and medium-sized enterprises, such as those in serviced offices in Cardiff, may decide to increase online security within their company in order to prevent cyber attacks.
Martyn Ruks, technical director at MWR InfoSecurity, said many organisations do not understand what effect an electronic attack on their assets can have.
He stated that firms can suffer as result of a disruption to revenue streams or because their websites are not available due to compliance or fraud issues.
"Across the board, there is a lack of understanding," Mr Ruks stated, adding: "There certainly needs to be more [attention] paid to protecting against these types of attacks."
A study carried out by Imperva found that insider security threats mainly arise as a result of the actions of normal mainstream employees.
The investigation revealed just under four-fifths of staff said their firm is unaware of, or does not have, a policy in place to remove collected data from laptops if someone leaves the business.
