Small and medium-sized businesses (SMBs), such as those in serviced offices in Northampton, should be offered endpoint data leak prevention solutions that are cheaper, it has been argued.
Alexei Lesnykh, business development manager for DeviceLock, said the info-security industry could be doing more to provide similar-sized firms with products that come with simplified installation and configuration, as well as offering better price and performance.
He noted SMBs may not have taken measures to prevent breaches that larger companies have because they do not have the security budget to pay for costly data leak prevention (DLP) devices.
According to the 2010 Trend Micro corporate end user survey, small businesses - including those in offices to rent - are 23 per cent less likely to have policies in place that prevent data leaks, compared to large firms.
More than half of similar-sized enterprises said they were most concerned by data leaks, while 63 per cent said viruses cause them the most worry.
