The Federation of Small Businesses (FSB) has urged the government to shed light on how changes to pension schemes could impact firms, such as those using serviced offices in Edinburgh.
According to the organisation, the coalition's estimation that micro enterprises with four employees or fewer will incur costs of £46 per person in administration as a result of its new automatic enrolment retirement fund scheme.
However, the federation believes this figure represents a massive shortfall and has therefore asked the current regime to publish an assessment of the consequences the new plans will have on small businesses.
Mike Cherry, policy chairman of the FSB, said while it is important people are given the chance to save for their future, the automatic enrolment scheme will come at a high cost to companies.
Earlier this week, Alistair Tebbit, spokesman for the Institute of Directors, said the government is in danger of creating more red tape for businesses – including those in offices to rent - to deal with, by putting forward a range of new proposals.
