Companies operating out of offices to rent in Northampton still have time to change their minds about offering staff a day off on April 29th.
This is according to the Trades Union Congress (TUC), which has called for employers to "do the right thing" and give their workers paid leave on the additional bank holiday.
It was suggested that those working in retail and for the emergency services are most likely to be forced to forgo a day off.
Brendan Barber, the body's general secretary, said: "A significant minority of tight-fisted companies have decided to ignore the national mood and insist on keeping staff chained to their desks while everyone else is enjoying the bank holiday."
The TUC has written to business secretary Vince Cable appealing for the law regarding working time regulations to be changed for special bank holidays.
Described as "the voice of Britain", the TUC is affiliated with 58 unions and represents 6.2 million employees across the UK.
