Older people working out of offices to rent in Northampton may be some of the people approaching retirement age that are said to suffer detrimental alterations to their working life.
Insurance provider Aviva conducted a poll of over 6,700 individuals aged over 55 that revealed 39 per cent reported being forced to undergo significant alterations to their careers in the ten years before the age of 65.
A total of 11 per cent had illnesses that resulted in them stopping work, 11 per cent stated that they were forced into an early retirement and 15 per cent claimed to have been made redundant.
"Many people see the final ten years before they retire as an opportunity to build up their pension pot," noted Aviva at retirement director Clive Bolton.
He added that this report has demonstrated this is not necessarily true.
This survey follows a recent government announcement that it is planning to phase out the default retirement age.
