Companies working out of offices to rent in Northampton or other locations may wish to consider educating their workforce about energy reduction strategies, following the comments of one leading organisation.
Paul Edwards, chair of the British Council for Offices' Environmental Sustainability Group, declared that "if the building owners educate the agents that run it and their tenants", then changes can be implemented that may reduce fuel bills.
He stated that most offices are still consuming electricity unnecessarily in the evening, despite the fact that "generally there should hardly be any energy use at night".
Mr Edwards claimed that training people to turn off machinery when they leave the building can improve its efficiency by between ten and 20 per cent.
"There is lots you can do by simply understanding [the building] first and then making simple changes," he concluded.
This follows a survey from Avery, which found most office workers believe their place of business has become more "green" after the recent economic crisis.
