Reduced corporation tax in businesses working from serviced offices in London or other parts of the UK will not provide ordinary tax payers with any significant benefit, according to the Trades Union Congress (TUC).
In a report entitled Corporate tax reform and competitiveness, tax specialist and chartered accountant Richard Murphy pointed out that Britain has a lower level of corporation tax than the average nation.
He also found no strong correlation between positive economic situations such as low unemployment or high GDP growth with lower levels of tax, although he did note it can lower government revenue.
TUC general secretary Brendan Barber said: "The government must stand up for hard-pressed workers and enforce a fairer tax regime and a fairer and more sustainable approach to securing economic growth."
According to the UK's Adam Smith Institute, the average British worker has spent every day up to May 30th covering their tax bill.
This is 149 days, or three days more than last year.
