People working from offices to rent in Edinburgh could be some of those that occasionally work through their holidays.
A study conducted by YouGov on behalf of Croner discovered 52 per cent of all staff members who are not self employed have performed job-related tasks during a period of leave, with 18 per cent doing so frequently.
Bosses might believe this shows a committed worker but it may actually reveal underlying issues within the company, Croner claimed.
"An employer should consider what support can be given to reduce workload or address any staffing issues" if they find people in their business work when on annual leave, according to senior employment consultant at the firm Amy Paxton.
Doing so can indicate "a failure of the employer's duty of care to their employees" and demonstrates poor management of work-related stress, she continued.
A total of 83 per cent of all UK firms provide no advice to members of staff suffering from this form of anxiety, Legal and General recently discovered.
