Businesses operating out of offices to let in Edinburgh could help nurture the next generation of workers by providing internships.
This is according to director of research and education at the National Council for Graduate Entrepreneurship professor Paul Hannon.
He explained how "all sectors have a role to play" in helping students and graduates learn about the world of work.
"Funding internships has always been a challenge and is one area where the private sector can make a positive contribution," Mr Hannon stated.
It was suggested that such opportunities are important for individuals to gain experience in business and enterprise skills.
As a result, Mr Hannon claimed that more should be done by the private sector to help youngsters achieve an insight into an actual career.
His comments follow a recent announcement by the Federation of Small Businesses that the government should extend the current paid Graduate Internship Scheme beyond its March 2011 termination date.
