Businesses looking for office space to rent in Cardiff may wish to provide flexible working benefits for their staff, as one expert said female joblessness levels would decrease if this provision was offered to all employees.
Dalia Ben-Galim, associate director for family, community and work at the Institute for Public Policy Research, said these schemes open up "equitable choices for men and women to work and care".
Through this, the amount of unemployed females would decline, she explained.
Data from the Office for National Statistics found the number of female jobseekers allowance claimants rose by 15,600 from June to July this year and hit 512,700, the highest it has been since April 1996.
The way maternity and paternity leave and wages are decided contributes significantly to what men and women opt to do when a new baby arrives, the expert noted, adding that "the level of pay is critical in this".
However, a government consultation is now ongoing regarding how to "change the flexible work landscape", particularly in the area of childcare, Mrs Ben-Galim stated.
