Small businesses, such as those using serviced offices in Cardiff, could benefit from a new document outlining how firms can make sure they are complying with competition law.
According to is4profit, the guide has been issued by the Office of Fair Trading (OFT) in order to assist similar-sized companies that reported confusion about their responsibilities under regulations.
OFT spokesman Jonathan Marciano said some businesses are not aware of what they can and cannot say when talking to other enterprises.
"Essentially, they can't share any information which is commercially sensitive with their competitors," he stated, adding: "Fines can be up to ten per cent of a firm's annual turnover for breaches."
The Competition Act is designed to promote healthy rivalry and does this by prohibiting agreements between companies - including those using serviced offices - that may be anti-competitive.
In addition, the rules make it illegal for those firms that are in a dominant market position to abuse their power.
