It is important for businesses, such as those using serviced offices in Edinburgh, to ensure they have good data quality systems in place, it has been noted.
Lance Mercereau, director of marketing and public relations at Rosslyn Analytics, warned if there is a low level of confidence in an employer's data, this can have a huge impact on their company's performance.
He observed a lot of firms are seeking to cut costs within procurement because of the economic environment, but stated it is critical all details are precise in order make savings.
If data is incorrectly entered into the system, by supplying several different names for the same supplier, for example, it becomes a quality issue and it is therefore necessary for employees to make sure there is only one provider, Mr Mercereau noted.
"The core comes down to knowing exactly who's buying what within your organisation, at what price and also where," he said.
Last week, the Carbon Disclosure Project FTSE 350 report, prepared by PricewaterhouseCoopers, revealed firms are realising carbon output will become a regular feature of company balance sheets in the future and as a result are introducing environmentally-friendly operations in the workplace.
