Companies operating out of offices to rent in Northampton may want to take note of one expert's claims about the value of interns.
Tim Campbell, founder of the Bright Ideas Trust, explained how small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) can benefit from taking on young people as apprentices.
"Apprenticeships in small businesses can be just as valuable as those with larger enterprises and our country's small businesses certainly have a responsibility to make these options available where possible," he stated.
It was suggested that interns can bring fresh ideas to firms and help them to grow and expand and that hiring someone in this position could be positive for SMEs' futures.
Mr Campbell advised companies that many young individuals may have hidden talents and should be given the opportunity to develop their careers.
His comments came after minister without portfolio Baroness Warsi launched the Whitehall Internship Programme as part of the social mobility strategy introduced by deputy prime minister Nick Clegg.
