Companies working out of serviced offices in Northampton may be some of the enterprises that have noticed smartphones increasing the popularity of flexible working.
This is following a statement made by Heather McLean, editor of mobile news publication Smart Gorillas, who declared that these devices have had a "massive impact" on businesses.
Useful apps make it more practical for people to work when travelling or at home, resulting in increased professionalism, she noted.
The mobile phone is being changed "from something to chat to people on and access emails with to a whole lot more", Ms McLean declared.
Tablets are the next innovation, she concluded, pointing out that although they are marketed towards consumers, some firms may find the screen size and functionality useful for business scenarios.
Apple has tried to enter this market and has released iWork software, allowing users to utilise spreadsheets, PowerPoint presentations and word processing software from handheld devices.
