Freelancers who use serviced offices in Edinburgh must make sure they have the correct level of insurance to cover their company against a range of eventualities, an expert has remarked.
Adrian Stewart, business development executive at insurance broker Caunce O'Hara, said the number of individuals starting up their own businesses is increasing at present.
However, he warned that these freelancers must make sure they have adequate insurance to cover their level of risk.
Mr Stewart noted that the majority of freelancers take out professional indemnity cover to protect themselves from client complaints over the quality of advice they receive.
Additionally, "it is common for freelancers to buy sickness and accident policies as they are mindful of the fact that they require substitute income in the event of not being able to do their work and this is often considered alongside income protection and critical illness plans", the expert added.
In a recent article for searchenginewatch.com, Mathieu Burgerhout suggested freelancers will gradually take over from agencies in the online marketing world in the currently uncertain economic conditions.
