Businesses that use serviced offices in Hemel Hempstead could benefit by allowing people to work in a way that suits them.
According to Stephen Overell, associate director of the Work Foundation, the smarter use of technology is one way that companies can help their workforces achieve this.
"It means that everyone doesn't need to be in the same place at any one time, they can work at different times of the day," Mr Overell observed.
He added that research indicating nine to five working hours are becoming resigned to the past is "probably a step too far".
Mr Overell believes that although most people still adhere to what are regarded as normal working hours, a change to the traditional structured pattern is positive.
As time passes he expects a larger proportion of the workforce to adopt a more flexible approach to the times they spend at their jobs.
Rob Lovell, chief executive officer of business IT provider ThinkGrid, recently argued that allowing employees to work from home when necessary can benefit businesses as this approach lowers costs while ensuring staff are still productive.
