Firms, such as those using serviced offices in Northampton, may decide to start implementing social media into their business in order to reach the large number of people who spend their time using the online sites.
Ciaran O'Sullivan, ad metrix product specialist at online audience measurement company comScore, said social media is one of the key drivers in the continuing growth in expenditure on the web by businesses.
"Social networks and blogs now reach 88 per cent of the online population in the UK, accounting for 20 per cent of the total time spent online," he noted.
This offers good opportunities for enterprises, including those in offices to rent, to exploit sites such as Facebook and Twitter, Mr O'Sullivan added.
Research carried out by comScore found that, compared to 12 months ago, there was a 34 per cent increase in the amount of display advertisements seen by UK internet users in the third quarter of this year, reaching 221 billion.
