Businesses, such as those in serviced offices, could benefit from improved communication between managers and staff.
According to Guy Emmerson, associate director of recruitment consultancy firm Badenoch and Clark, the recession has been partly responsible for a breakdown in understanding between bosses and young employees.
More youthful workers such as graduates have been particularly affected, he continued, because they are new to the market and may find it more difficult to understand changes than people who have been at a company for longer.
Mr Emmerson stated the most important step employers can take to ensure they are trusted by new staff is to make sure they are well managed.
"The communication needs to be really strong between the manager and the employees," he said.
And those in serviced offices might see more engaged workers if they implement this advice.
According to research recently carried out by Badenoch and Clark, almost one-in-three young employees do not trust their boss.
