Businesses in serviced offices might wish to consider the suggestion managers who become promoted internally lack the necessary people skills for the job.
Tina Lamb, senior partner at business skills training company the Impact Factory, said accidental managers - people who had no original desire to become a supervisor - often get promoted because the company does not want to train someone new.
However, people who are good at their job do not necessarily possess the leadership and people skills needed to be a manager, she continued.
There can be other problems too, Ms Lamb added.
"The most difficult part of internal promotions is that you would then be managing someone with whom you were on an even level just a couple of months ago," she explained.
And businesses, such as those in serviced offices, might want to consider these issues when making new appointments.
According to new research from the Chartered Management
Institute, 68 per cent of UK managers categorise themselves as
accidental.
