Businesses occupying serviced offices in Northampton may decide to help create a stress-free environment in order to avoid the financial cost of not dealing with the situation.
Neil Shah, director of the Stress Management Society, said firms face paying out a lot of money unless they address issues that can have a negative affect on their workforce.
"I would suggest that employers actually do take the time to risk assess the stress and understand how stress may impact on their organisation," he stated.
Mr Shah added that emotional unrest could lead to more people taking days off sick and an increase in accidents that result in injury or a drop in productivity.
He noted that enterprises can take steps such as not making unreasonable demands on employees and ensuring they have the time and capacity to cope with their workload.
By doing this, businesses can help reduce the likelihood of their staff suffering from physical issues, including headaches and tiredness, Mr Shah observed.
According to the Stress Management Society website, stress is the biggest cause of absence in the UK.
