Companies - including those in serviced offices in Edinburgh - should take advantage of opportunities to improve their energy efficiency.
That is according to Craig Bennett, director of policy and campaigns for Friends of the Earth, who said introducing more sustainable systems can help organisations to cut down on costs.
And this is an important issue for those trying to decrease their outgoings because of the recession, he continued.
"There are huge opportunities for businesses to reduce their costs by becoming more efficient in the way they use fuel and making sure that they've got efficiency measures in place," Mr Bennett remarked.
Firms could also benefit from investing in low-carbon technologies, he proposed.
And those in serviced offices might wish to take on board Mr Bennett's advice in order to reduce their energy bills and keep apace with developments in sustainability.
Earlier this year, the Committee on Climate Change announced new policies need to be put in place to reduce carbon emissions in the power, buildings, transport and agriculture sectors if the UK is to meet is environmental targets by 2020.
