Companies - including those in serviced offices in Edinburgh - can reduce their carbon emissions by using video conferencing technology.
That is the view of David Martella, director of operations and strategy for Cisco TelePresence, who said such equipment helps firms cut down on travel costs by decreasing the number of long-distance business meetings their staff need to attend.
Cisco TelePresence recently launched its new video conferencing technology Virtual Meetings, which uses high-definition video, real-time audio and interior design to make people feel like they are gathered around a virtual table.
And organisations that have used the software cite "increased collaboration [and] faster time to market" as its main advantages, Mr Martella stated.
It also allows people to develop long-distance business relationships, he continued.
Mr Martella added Virtual Meetings allows companies to bring whole teams together and delegate work effectively, which many cannot afford to do in terms of travel costs.
Firms in offices to rent might therefore wish to invest in the software in order to reap both environmental and business benefits.
