Businesses in serviced offices could be set to receive government help to reduce their waste and recycle more of their rubbish.
Environment minister Lord Henley announced the coalition wants to work with companies to introduce voluntary responsibility deals in order to save firms money and help protect the environment.
Mike Webster, spokesman for charity Waste Watch, said arrangements of this kind can be an effective means of improving businesses' recycling policies, as long as they trigger action.
However, small and medium-sized businesses face various barriers to reducing their waste, he continued, such as having limited time and space.
Mr Webster added: "Incentives such as landfill tax, which makes it more expensive to throw stuff away, won't work unless businesses have access to a reasonably priced recycling service."
And companies that have recently moved to a serviced office may find environmental issues such as recycling are worth considering.
The Federation of Small Businesses remarked emerging firms need financial support in order to carry out green measures.
