Businesses, such as those in serviced offices, could benefit from having a more contented workforce by introducing performance-related pay.
Charles Cotton, performance and reward adviser for the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD), said employees want to share in the success of their firm.
According to research carried out by the CIPD at the end of last year, he continued, a significant number of respondents commented they would like pay to be based on either the performance of themselves, their team or their organisation.
Mr Cotton continued there are a number of ways to do this, including workers having shares in the business and a profit share scheme, whereby employees receive a bonus when their company makes a certain amount of money.
And firms in serviced offices might wish to implement these ideas in order to motivate their staff.
The Global Workforce Index, which was recently published by Kelly Services, revealed 53 per cent of UK workers believe they would be more productive if they had an ownership stake in their employer's business.
