Small companies - including those in serviced offices - might fear losing their staff after the government extended legal rights for workers.
The coalition announced the privilege to request time off for training, which is currently held by employees at organisations of 250 or more staff, will be extended to all workers from April 6th 2011.
And according to Sylvia Constantine, IBA Start up Business Adviser of the Year 2005, this will present genuine concerns for emerging enterprises.
"In smaller businesses the logistics of getting people trained and the fear of people then leaving is a very real concern," she said.
Bosses worry staff will resign and get a better job if they become better qualified, Ms Constantine continued.
However, training could have advantages for firms, such as those in serviced offices, as every business will benefit from having a skilled workforce, she added.
The Department for Business, Innovation and Skills stated it is interested in hearing views on the new regulation from employees and businesses.
