The Equality Act, which will apply to businesses using serviced offices in Cardiff, is expected to cause employers a degree of confusion while the new guidelines bed in.
According to Michelle Morgan, an employment solicitor at Brethertons, companies will be forced to review existing procedures in order to comply with changes to existing anti-discrimination legislation.
"Ultimately however, I don't think that the majority of changes are such that [a] major re-hashing of policies will be needed," she observed.
Ms Morgan said difficulties may arise for employers and employees concerning the dates on which discriminatory action occurred, which will determine whether current legislation or the Equality Act 2010 is applied to the case.
The new rules come into force from October 1st and state that any acts of discrimination occurring before this date will be dealt with by the old laws, with those continuing through the beginning of the month being subjected to the new rules.
