Firms occupying serviced offices in Cardiff may be wary when considering whether to take on an individual who has a track record of ill health or has spent a long time living on benefits, it has been argued.
John Philpott, chief economic adviser at the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD), said it is inevitable businesses will be cautious when considering whether to hire such people.
Therefore, it is important that employers and human resources departments liaise with organisations providing welfare-to-work support in order to make sure a potential worker can adequately fill a job vacancy, he stated.
The adviser added people returning to the workplace following health problems or who suffer from recurring bouts of illness may need to be allowed time to settle back into employment.
Mr Philpott's comments come after the Department for Work and Pensions recently revealed that after being subjected to the government's Work Capability Assessment, three-quarters of individuals applying for the new Employment and Support Allowance programme have been found as able to work.
