Many companies using serviced offices in Edinburgh could be calling on the skills of contractors to help in their IT departments.
According to Gerry McLaughlin from ITContractor.com, a number of organisations are changing their attitudes towards this kind of worker and are realising they can be beneficial.
As a result, he pointed out that during the economic downturn, IT contractors have not struggled as much as other sectors.
"Indeed, contractor rates are now back higher than they had been in 2008," Mr McLaughlin continued, adding that there has been a "sea change" in the way firms utilise these members of staff.
The expert believes companies, which may include those in business centres, no longer see them as being an extra expense, while some major firms are retaining contractors and choosing to save money elsewhere.
His comments come after market commentary from Badenoch & Clark suggested IT departments will have to consider transferring knowledge to contractors to ensure their success.
