Firms, including those using serviced offices in Northampton, could benefit by finding cleaner and greener ways to operate, a study has shown.
The Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP) FTSE 350 report, prepared by PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) and released today (October 8th), found eight-out-of-ten companies have identified business opportunities that can develop from climate change.
Firms are realising new market opportunities by implementing environmentally-friendly operations and products - and are giving themselves a competitive advantage as a result.
Commenting on the report Alan McGill, a partner at PwC UK said: "This year's responses to CDP have shown that many companies are on this journey and recognise that carbon is going to be … a regular feature on company balance sheets."
However, the report established only one-in-ten businesses encourage policy action that helps to impact climate change adaptation and mitigation.
The study also found 96 per cent of firms questioned have a member or executive on its board whose is responsible for handling climate change issues.
Last month, Craig Bennett, director of policy and campaigns for Friends of the Earth, noted companies can help to cut costs by introducing more sustainable systems.
