Businesses in serviced offices could need more cover against litigations31st August 2010

Organisations, including those in serviced offices, may need to protect themselves against the criminal actions of staff members.

According to Steve Huxham, chairman of the Recruitment Society, businesses need to take greater care against litigations due to the current economic climate.

"When people, businesses [and] employees are under pressure, you have to be even more careful that … the pressure doesn't lead individuals or companies to do things that they shouldn't," he said.

In these increasingly litigious times, Mr Huxman continued, firms need to be more cautious and have greater protection.

Companies may wish to ensure they have the correct procedures in place for such actions, he suggested.

And they would have to be able to demonstrate they have taken all reasonable steps to prevent workers from committing a crime if a case went to court, Mr Huxman added.

Research conducted by the RSA Group last year showed 54 per cent of employees admit to stealing from their company, while offices are twice as likely to experience staff theft as manual workplaces.
