Small businesses, including those in serviced offices in Northampton, may be boosted by the news that the economy is expected to continue to grow.
In its latest economic forecast, The Confederation of British Industry (CBI) has predicted that the UK economy will rise by 1.6 per cent in 2010, up from the 1.3 per cent increase forecast in June.
Speaking about the outlook for the coming year, CBI director-general Richard Lambert said he feels that the UK's economic recovery will be sustained.
"The fragile nature of the recovery is why … the government must focus its scarce resources on those areas which most galvanise growth, namely infrastructure and capital investment," he observed.
Commenting on the report, the CBI's chief economic adviser Ian McCafferty claimed that although 2010 has seen greater economic activity than expected, the forecast for 2011 will be tempered as public finances are likely to be cut back to sustainable levels.
Earlier this month, the Bank of England Monetary Policy Committee maintained interest rates at a record low of 0.5 per cent in a bid to help the economy recover from the recession.
