Businesses in serviced offices in Northampton may be among the 55 per cent of companies that have spent no money on Christmas decorations.
A new study by Maris Interiors has found that more than half of organisations have decided to do away with festive ornaments this year.
Of those who have invested in decorative pieces, the average spend per employee was at a record low of just 23 pence.
According to the research, the most commonly seen addition that people could expect to see in offices to rent is tinsel.
This is often taped to the ceiling or used to adorn computer screens.
Michael Howard, chairman of Maris Interiors, said: "This is slightly depressing to hear - even in these austere times, companies should perhaps think of employee morale before cutting back completely on the Christmas decorations."
He added that adding some cheap fairy lights could go an "awful long way" in cheering individuals up.
