Firms - including those using serviced offices in Edinburgh from which to run their business - may decide to take on apprentices, following comments from one expert.
Marketing and communications director at the National Apprenticeship Service Josie Perry noted that the work-training programmes do not have to be restricted to sectors such as construction, but can be implemented across many business areas.
She noted that allowing individuals to earn money while they train will allow them to understand what is expected in the workplace and how the environment works.
"Many of them will also get kept on by their employer because they have someone who they have trained up from scratch who is a very good employee," Ms Perry added.
Last week, a study by Experian found that small and medium-sized enterprises, such as those in offices to rent, will be the major force behind employment in the UK.
